UPDATE! It appears that my mom exhibits many of the personality traits associated with narcissistic personality disorder, and that i have what are called FLEAs. Suddenly, everything makes more sense.

So my parents roasted me and banned me from the family computer for having an “inappropriate” meme on there. They said that for everything “inappropriate” on there, they’ll give me a consequence. I’ve just looked up the rights of minors under law, and if I paid for it, they have no right to touch it. I love being “that guy” so I will threaten to call the cops if they steal my shit. Not through 911, just through their non emergency number, but still. They’ve pushed me around for too damn long.

There are two things my parents can’t handle: my dankness and the truth. These memes are both.

My parents gave me less shit for having something even less appropriate on the computer (hint-it rhymes with dornography).

If you don’t like the rules your parents have for you, don’t live with them. Even threatening to call the cops on your parents for them laying down the law is a bad decision.

I can’t move out from the control of these sssholes until 19 (they moved to BC for that reason) so I’m just going to make their life a living hell for the next year and a half.

They moved to BC because here, you can’t move out until you’re 19. Believe me, I tried.

Exactly. This is the type of stuff you’d expect to see on Maury.

Plus, the officers would most definitely side with the parents.

Does that law apply only if you’re a resident of BC? You could find a place to live elsewhere and move there then force them to have to go out of jurisdiction to come bring you back.

Alternatively, what’s the emancipation laws look like there?

You could look into colleges too, which could let you move out into a dorm, though you might have to be emancipated first before they’d let you apply as a single adult instead of a child, and a lot of financial aid is still draconian; it’s usually expected the parents are paying for school, and demanded that your parents forward tax information. They use the parent’s income to determine your costs.

I am from BC and this is definitely not the case. I moved out at 17 and I know others who have done so as early as 15.

It’s not always fun living by your parents’ rules, but I’d suggest you deal with it for the time being.

Pack a bag, get all your cash and walk out the front door. Get a taxi to the bus stop, get a ticket to the other side of the country. You say the law won’t let you but the law is only stopping you in your mind. A police officer isn’t standing outside your front door keeping you in your house. If there is, then you have bigger issues.

Did you buy it with your own taxable income? I can guarantee that’s a requirement for something to truly belong to you. Anything your parents bought you - or that you bought with allowance or whatever - legally belongs to them.

There’s also the process of enforcability. If you walk out of the house with all your possessions and cash, they have to report to their police that you’ve ran away. The police have to follow up and track you down, they have to go to another jurisdiction and cooperate with them. This process take months, maybe years. In almost every jurisdiction, it’s not a crime to run away.

If you’re a legal resident of another jurisdiction by the time they catch up to you, then it’s likely that a custody suit would take longer than it would be for you to turn 19 to be filed, and cost them far more than they’d be willing to spend to have you back for a few months.

In many cities and states you can rent as long as you have enough for a security deposit, which now makes you a legal resident of that area and under their jurisdiction. Do you have a job? If it’s at a franchise, ask if they will transfer to you to another location. Likewise, you need a bank account that isn’t a joint account with your parents.

Now, if you lie about your age or name when moving somewhere, that’s fraud and that IS a crime. But honestly leaving home, living somewhere else, and then having your parents decide to go to the authorities to find you, is not a crime, to the best of my knowledge. Just make sure you do the legal research in advance to know where you’re going and what their laws are.

I worked odd jobs to pay for most of my stuff. I get $20 a month deposited into a trust account as opposed to an allowance.

Kinja'd!!! GhostZ > G_Body_Man: Sponsored by the number 3

Kinja'd!!!1

I’m not sure. There might be harboring laws about hiding someone in another jurisdiction, since you wouldn’t be legal resident there. In any case, it is inordinately risky and more liable to end up with you on the street than anything else to go somewhere without a job on someone else’s goodwill.

Get a job out there by applying and calling or transferring your current work. Or work your current job until you’ve saved up enough money for a few month’s food, rent, and a security deposit so you can live out there while you search for a job.

If you don’t have a current job, then you shouldn’t even be considering this, go back to step 1 and get a job.
